Formation of Himachal Pradesh

Following India’s independence in 1947, there was an increase in desire for the Hill State quarters to be merged. Trading routes had a major role in ancient history. The Tibetan people ruled the majority of Himachal Pradesh throughout the tenth century. The Buddhist culture still shapes the characteristics of the Lahaul and Spiti valley (a mountain desert). Hosts of Ranas, Rajas, and Thakurs (the noblemen) presided over the southern and western regions, which were divided into a patchwork of small states and larger ones like Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba.

Later in 1864, Britishers converted Dharamshala, Dalhousie, and Shimla into a miniature version of England, and it became their summer capital. A narrow gauge railroad track was built from Shimla to the Kangra valley as part of the railway network. While Southern princedoms and the Chamba region were free and known as the Punjab Hill state, the area that was subject to British administration was regarded and managed as a part of Punjab. From these Princely states, Himachal Pradesh was created after Independence. In 1966, the administration from Punjab was added, and Himachal Pradesh attained full statehood in 1971. Later, the hydropower plant was built, and it is now providing electricity to half of the nation.
